Our journey begins in the village of Tochni, where the hidden beauty and unique architecture will undoubtedly captivate you. A leisurely stroll takes us to the village square, where the splendid Church of Agiou Constantinou and Elenis stands as a testament to 19th-century architectural elegance. Nestled on a bridge, this picturesque church once overlooked a flowing river.
Delve into the rich history of the Church, rumoured to have been erected on the ruins of a temple commissioned by Saint Helena, the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great. After absorbing the cultural tapestry, we pause for a coffee break at the charming Agios Constantinos & Eleni coffee shop, where you can savour traditional delights.
Our next destination is the quaint village of Lefkara, renowned for its labyrinthine cobblestone lanes and traditional stone cottages. This picturesque settlement is celebrated for its embroidery techniques and silversmithing, contributing to the birth of Cypriot folk needlecraft art. Recognised internationally, this art form has earned a coveted spot on the UNESCO Intangible World Heritage list.
As our exploration continues, we reach the village of Kato Dyrs, a hidden gem with fewer than 100 residents. Designated a Preserved Village, its charm lies in the white stone houses and traditional features. The residents' primary pursuit revolves around beekeeping, yielding exquisite honeys infused with the flavours of thyme and wildflowers from the village's surroundings.
To savour the authentic flavours of Cyprus, we'll pause at a traditional Cypriot tavern in Kato Dyrs, offering a taste of the region's culinary delights.
